Then You Must Start
Monday, September 13, 2010Barb and I spent Saturday morning together. We walked through the John Knox Village antique show quickly....well kind of quickly. We had lunch to talk about some designs and ideas....and then we both had to rush home. We are in our "crazy" mode. Trying to get everything done to meet our deadlines.
I won't be able to post much here for a month....I'm just "hanging in there" until November. Then the only thing on my mind will be what to serve with turkey.
Jeanne Horton from Country Sampler sent a kit for me to use for our class there. Saturday and Sunday were spent in cutting paper and fabric then my "bonding" time with the glue stick . Wish I had time to do this by hand. Hand applique is so peaceful! But this will have to be done using the invisible machine applique method.
Now for the sewing!
I haven't had time to respond to questions in the comments section and I appreciate you helping out with the answers! (This means you Nancy in WI!!!)
I will do a demo painting and waxing a sewing box....look for it on the blog in November. For those of you who are wanting to jump in and try it on your own....here goes the short version. We use acrylic paint. Pick your favorite color. Paint the box and allow it to dry. Sand to distress and then wax with light or dark brown Briwax. If you "google" Briwax you can find their website and it gives locations to purchase this product. I find it at antique shops and my local Truevalue hardware store.
Until later dear friends!

I wish I was going to be at Country Sampler when you are but it isn't meant to be. A friend and I are going next Tuesday. We're going there and to J.J.'s. Your project looks FANTASTIC! Have fun! Nancy in WI
ReplyDeleteI hope the craziness of the next month doesn't wear you out too much! Look forward to your posts in November....
ReplyDeleteI love your project and sometimes, like now, I wish I lived in the States and could come to your wonderful classes. I just saw a chart you made for a Shepherds Bush Retreat and I am in love - with the chart.
ReplyDeleteI hope your craziness calms down sooner than you think it will or is at least less crazy.
Lots of Love

ReplyDeleteOh I adore your project! And I'm going to try the waxing technique on a little stool I picked up thrifting! Loved your little sewing box. "Then You Must Start"....love this!!

ReplyDeleteLearned your waxed box technique at the SB Retreat 2 years ago! I've used it several times this year! I understand about not teaching next year...I think about all the great "stuff" you guys do and wonder where you both find the time! Your new project looks fabulous! Enjoy the SB Retreat!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the answer to my query (about the finish on the sewing box). What a lovely person you must be to take the time in your busy schedule to help. We all love you and your wonderful projects but YOU comes first. Take time to enjoy your life. :) See you in November!
ReplyDeleteWe'll miss you until November. Love the pomegranate block. I'm currently working on your "Holly & Mistletoe" quilt for my sister-in-law's 60th birthday - want to surprise her and this quilt just spoke her name to me!! I'll post a photo after I give it to her - I'm really pleased with how it is turning out :o)

Will see you at Country Sampler B&B #2. Can't wait. Courtney is coming with me and we are trying to think of something fun to make for you. You've already been Barbied, have the sampler Depends. Hmmm...what should I do????
ReplyDeleteLove ya! And Barb too!!!!!
I love the antique needlework. If you think that they didn't have magnifiers, Ott lights, and were usually very young you realize how easy we have it.
ReplyDeleteOoh!!! Don't I love this pomegranate applique - I am doing a wedding quilt which will be a combination of a pictorial and a modified and funky folky baltimore type set of blocks in the middle - I can see the "love apple" symbolising their love for each other. I simply love the choice of colours.
ReplyDeleteI will be at the first session at Country Sampler. I can't wait to see all the projects BD is doing. If you see this message before then could you please bring a couple of eyelets for me to purchase so I can get your x stitch scissor and floss holder pattern that I have been working on completed? Paula from Mn
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabric !!
