Rainy Day

It's been raining all morning. The weather is cool and it makes me feel like doing a bit of applique. The heat from this summer removed any desire I had for working with fabric. A cool rainy day is all I need to begin to feel the desire to pull out the rotary cutter and get to work.

Large shapes always seem more relaxing to me than very small detailed ones. Easy to cut and easy to sew.

I'm using the new line of fabric from "Wild Rose." The yellows and browns in this fabric line make me think of faded pressed flowers. (Will be in quilt shops in November. This quilt will be in our next book, Garden Club.) Barb is making one too...but she hasn't quite decided on her color palette. She likes to have all the blocks planned before she begins to cut out the shapes and put them on the fabric. I just cut away....and plan one block at a time. (For you gals from the Buggy Barn...yes, I'm doing whimsical placement! You ladies were just too funny.) I sleep just fine at night even if the placement of my pieces don't quite match the pattern exactly.

Hope your summer heat is beginning to relent and your thoughts are returning to quilting!

    Beautiful as always! I'm still trying to find the courage to start blocks from your book Birds of a feather, that I bought at least a year go ! I really have to just start and try needleturn... sigh... ;-)

    My favorite applique designers are doing it again! My eyes are always drawn to your books and patterns and I have several and have made them! I'm looking forward to your new ones!

    I'm drooling over the key board!! I see another yummy quilt in my future, and I just got one. I do find it difficult at times, to just jump in and CUT when the fabrics are so so beautiful. I found that really interesting that you can just start making blocks right away, while Barb waits for all the pieces in the line to arrive. Not sure what you meant about placement, but I probably wouldn't worry either....sort of like hanging a picture- if it looks good to the eye, hammer the nail!!! Can hardly wait to see the whole thing!!

    I love your applique piece! The colors are beautiful, and they look even more so against the ticking stripe fabric.

    A cool rainy day is the perfect atmosphere to stay inside and do needlework, in my opinion. Especially when you can open the windows and not only hear it but smell it too!

    I love your color and textures of this piece. The old yellow is a favorite of mine, I have a sample of Ralph Lauren wallpaper with this color. A sample was all my pocketbook could afford.... but the piece is so inspiring. I am looking forward to seeing your finished quilt.
    We are cooling here in Oregon too, it does draw one back inside to things set aside, like my sewing.
