Update for Cherie
Wednesday, June 16, 2010My friend Cherie e-mailed me this morning.
"Girl! I wish you'd update your blog! I'm sitting here at the knee doc with nothing new to read!!!
Your bored friend,
Cherie"
Of course, Cherie can write anywhere now as she has an iPhone. She's connected to say the least. Cherie is at home now and probably not bored anymore. Nevertheless, Cherie....here's the update.
I've been getting kits ready for our weekend classes at Tomorrow's Heirlooms in Glen Ellyn, IL. It's wild around here to say the least. It takes about 3-4 weeks of work before we can hit the road for a teaching engagement. Now, I'm down to the final moments of putting it all together.
So Cherie....nothing is too cute here! Take a look at my work table.
I'm decorating some bags for the kits....found them at a shop a couple of years ago. The man who sold them to me said they were about 20 years old. He hadn't been able to sell them as they were yellowed with age. I told him they were perfect for me!
I'm using small portions of pages from an old cookbook that Barb gave me from her last estate sale. The pages are so old they fragment into pieces as I apply the glue. I imagine I'm sending people secret messages. "Cut your beans into small and uniform shapes." "sippits of toast" (What is a sippit anyway?)
I went out this morning and cut my white lavender and boxwood. A bit of floral whimsy completes the kit.
Hope you all have a wonderful rest of the week! Will report back to you on Monday.
Until later!
Alma

Dear Alma,
ReplyDeleteAs a soon to be recipient of your hard work and lovely packaging, I thank you!! Can't wait to see you & Barb Sat and Sun. We appreciate all of the little details and thought you've put into it all!!
Lovely, Alma.
ReplyDeletecould it be a "snippet" of toast? I picture a little 90 degree triangle of a size so that from the 90 corner to the center of the opposite line the measurement would be about 1.5". So, perhaps an eighth of a slice? lol. Where is my mind today. Rabbit trails.
Good luck on your trip; It sounds like a fabulous time!
The packaging alone is intriguing - can't wait to see what was in those sweet bags!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Alma! Thank you! Although you let me down at the Dr, I am happy to read what's new -now that I'm at home!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you are FINALLY using those "white" bags! They are mighty cute now - your work table? Not so much! But that's what comes with creativity.
White lavender? Do I need some of this?
Have fun in Illinois so you can entertain me again once you are back! Safe travels! C
Alma
ReplyDeleteI am going to be there Saturday ~ I can't wait ~ the bags are too cute
Woohoo, can't wait for Saturday!
ReplyDeleteAlma, you should know that all the work you put into your beautiful packaging of kits is greatly appreciated by all who take your classes. I still have my packaging from the class I took from you and Barb at the Hands to Work retreat a few years ago. It's treasured and will never be thrown away. :D Wish I were going to be in Illinois with you!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stuff. But to the important question: "a small piece of bread or the like for dipping in liquid food, as in gravy or milk; a small sop."
ReplyDeletei say thank god she emailed you to 'perform' rather than me.. thank you Cheri.. LOL!!!

ReplyDeleteWow, you're great! What a lovely kits! I wish I could be in your class, but Illinois is pretty far from my hometown. I take comfort from the fact I'll get your book Country Inn very soon!

Hi Alma -- The kits look lovely -- just like everything that you and Barb do. I can't wait for your class on June 26 at the Old Mill. I know that you will have "magic" for us as well. I finally was able to make my long anticipated start on your Anniversay series last night -- and am just loving it. In fact I would rather be stitching on it today than working.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend and a great trip to Illinois.
Wish, wish, wish I live in IL so I could be there too....sigh....have a great class anyways!!! Dianntha
ReplyDeletewish a kit was coming my way....the bags are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Thanks for sharing. It's so much fun just to look at the pictures of the beautiful packages! (I can't imagine actually receiving one!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty kit, I can't wait for your Tulsa class at the Silver Needle next month. ^~^
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and all the really neat things you do with all the old and the new!
ReplyDeleteLooked up Sippet on Webster's. Says it is a 16th century alteration of the word "sop"; it is mainly used in Great Brittan and is a small piece of toast or fried bread mainly used for garnishing. I wonder if it's like how we use garlic bread to sop up delicious sauce when all the spaghetti is done. Have fun at your class!
makes me excited for the Tulsa class! Can't wait!!!
ReplyDeletenon posso proprio prendere il kit e farlo qui in italia

Those packages are so beautifully decorated. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteI have such wonderful memories of the class I had with you and Barb at the Olde Green Cupboard 2 years ago - sad that shop is now closed. I envy all the people who will get to enjoy your company this summer at upcoming events. I'll just have to be happy stitching on my Anniversaries of the Heart - I resisted as long as possible thinking I could pass on this but alas I caved and am enjoying it on the 30ct as my work WIP. Have a wonderful time and safe travels Melody
ReplyDeleteI wrote you a few days later...
ReplyDeleteShame, you don't see my mail...
Your bags look lovely and I am sure everybody loved them I know I would.
ReplyDeleteI decorated some bags for a retreat for the girls that were doing a Round Robin that year. I used colored pencils on the stamped teacups, snowmen, cats and flip flops for that Round Robin.
I have a question ~ a few years ago you did a retreat and one of the classes was called Seaside Retreat it was a kit. Are you ever going to offer those patterns to the general public? I love that pattern and I saw it on Jennifer's blog. I would buy it if it was offered along with other patterns. I like your designs very much.
Thanks for your time you sound really busy.
God Bless ~
Lenna
Oh my, so lovely!~ It's the little things, isn't it?!?! so swweeeeet and thoughtful of you to add such a special touch. XO
ReplyDeleteYou are truly amazing - I'd buy a kit without even knowing what was inside - it looks so good on the outside!
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhhhhh Alma it seems so cute!!But what's inside?Love.Couson
ReplyDeleteAlma, I was in Quilters Station and inquire about the Bootiful quilt you are teaching at Primitives of MW in July. I would like to know what the quilt looks like and QS could not tell me anything concerning the quilt. Can you or Barb?
ReplyDeleteOh, You packaging is cute fetching.

Like Cherie, I so look forward to your posts. I've told friends your messages are like a hot cup of cocoa on a cold winter night....or maybe a bowl of homemade strawberry ice cream on a HOT summer day. At day's end, your posts are just the bright inspiration to bring a smile and give a word of thanks for the blessings of taking needle and thread in hand. Thank you for your messages, photos and sharing. Your flower-sprigged "yellowed" paper bags look marvelous.
ReplyDeleteRegards Pamela Hoops
Hi Alma, You don't know me, but I know you...I have most all your books. I just finshed reading Country Inn...I got tears in my eyes when I read about Henry being sick...and the apple roll-ups...and his eyes filling with tears as he thinks of "this woman's kindness to him!" I will say, I have never cried reading a quilt book...but that part of the story got me! Now I want to know if they are married? LOVE YOUR BOOK! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe autumn quilt is wonderful. You two are so talented. Thanks for sharing your work.
ReplyDeletevorrei essere li per giocare con tutte quelle bee stoffine.

I absolutely love the Autumn/Halloween quilt you ladies are teaching. Wish I were closer to either shop! Thank you for sharing....... Hope it is in one of your lovely quilt books - if not already then very soon!
