New Stocking Patterns
Saturday, January 9, 2010
The patterns were sent to the distributors this week. They should be in your local cross stitch shop in 1-2 weeks. The top picture shows the stockings from November and the bottom stockings are for December. This completes the series. Barb designed this entire series and when seen together they are quite amazing.
We are trying to think of another fun idea for next year. Any ideas would be appreciated and considered!
I almost purchased the sweater just for the label. Who thinks of these things? Wouldn't this be great as a gift tag?
I'd write more, but I'm in my sewing mode!
Many thanks to all of you for your kind invitations. Barb and I will be there next week! We are sick of this snow and dying to see all of you in warmer climates! (P.S. I have to say I'm kidding here...the last time I wrote something like this, my mom thought that Barb and I really went to the Bahamas to celebrate a book finish.) Mom, I'm at home working!!!
Until later,
Alma

They're just beautiful! Barb has really outdone herself on these!
ReplyDeleteI hope you show off more from your sewing sometime soon. :D
Bonjour Alma,
ReplyDeleteAlways, always new wonders !!!! My needles are readdy to stitch...
Here in France, we've also a "crazy" winter with snow, very cold days, it's unusual. I send you also an invitation, you're welcome... it'll not be so funny that in Southern hemisphere because you'll have to put in your suitcase more than a bikini and a beach towel !
Warm (we need it) wishes.
ANNE.
The stocking designs are gorgeous and such a treat! These will be one of my projects for this year. (I made the design with the stork carrying the baby bundle as a first Christmas ornament for my little granddaughter. Her mommy loves it!)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your new designs for 2010!
I've been on pins and needles waiting for these! They are beautiful! I look forward to finishing my collection. They are so much fun to stitch and finish! Meagan
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the stockings!
ReplyDeleteAn alphabet series might be fun for the stockings? You could do 3 or so each edition and then you've got 8 or so to for the year. Just a thought, I am guessing your ideas are probably lots better than mine :-).
Or some sort of funky sampler motif series, with your spin on it, ie., crowns, peacocks, Adam and Eve, carnations, Tree of Life, etc...(I'd have to get my sampler book out to name more off the top of my head, LOL).
ReplyDeleteI love the stockings. I think they are gorgeous! I think you all design the most gorgeous Christmas ornaments. I always love the BBD ornaments in the JCS annual issue. How about a series of ornaments? All Christmas themed each month, but not necessarily shaped as stockings.
ReplyDeleteNot the most creative idea from me, but I know I would certainly love stitching them. :)
Seasonal samplers would be fun too!!
Those stockings are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!
Can't wait to get these! They are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh -- these are so beautiful. I can't wait for my "automatic" shipment from my not-so-local cross stitch shop.
ReplyDeleteAs far as ideas for next year -- I love almost everything you design. I would love a series of very small mini Samplers with traditional themes but your unique Blackbird style that could be stitched to finish as ornaments. I would love to have a small sewing tree to put up for the holidays next year.
Warm wishes,
Sharon in St. Louis
I love those stockings and hopefully I can find a good store around here. Not even sure if we have anymore needlework stores. These would make great gifts for next year.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
I have enjoyed your stocking booklets and these last two make my complete series for the year.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see a series of vintage "old world" santas, snowmen and perhaps Christmas trees for ornaments. Something similar to the stockings that is quick to do and easy to finish.
I know you did a Halloween booklet but I would love to see a series of witches. As I am a witch collector.
Also instructions included on finishing is always nice.
I am not ever unhappy with your patterns & designs. Keep up the good work ! Can't wait to see what you will do for the future from all the suggestions.
Sorry, but I am #12 comment & somehow I show up as Anonymous, I really have a name. ha.

The stockings are all so cute! They were well worth the wait. Can't wait to see them in person. Love that little turkey on the Nov. one!

ReplyDeleteCome down under.. we are having a HEATWAVE at the moment, some parts of the country (Victoria / South Aust) are having their 4 or 5th day of 100-110F days :O) its only 95F here today! LOL
send snow and SOON!
Lissa
Thanks so much for wonderful stockings. Can hardly wait to receive the last two booklets!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of ornaments. How about something in the line of celebrating out families--the events that shape our lives--- births, marriages, 1st homes, vocations, church life, friends, communities, pets, military service, "the seasons of our lives"...
Or states---especially the Midwest.
America from sea to sea?
Whatever you decide will be wonderful!
How fun would a state ornament be??? People could do just the state the wanted, however, I bet there would be a lot of people (me included) who would love to do them all... or Christmas bells like the stockings or other Christmas shapes...looks like there are a lot of good ideas on here already! :)
ReplyDeleteWell you've done the stockings, how about some mittens to go along with them. That way our tooties and fingers would be warm all the time. Then for the following year, you can do shirts for six months then pants and skirts for the remaining six months. That way our trees will be fully dressed.
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous! You inspire me to take up stitching (I'm a quilter). :) Christine
ReplyDeleteTruly wonderful. I'm going to have to stitch stockings this year!
ReplyDeleteBobbi
Large stockings series that are wide at the top and toe!
ReplyDeleteI just love this series and can't wait to get the last two patterns!!!
Oh really like the sampler mini stocking series and the alphabet series!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMonthly "mini" samplers:)
ReplyDeleteAlways a pleasure reading your blog
ReplyDeleteand stitching your designs.
Those stockings are gorgeous! I collect them all. It's snowing here again and it's cold. We long for spring.
I loooove these new stockings : Congrats to Barb !
ReplyDeleteI loved the patterns on the stocking and these last two are the right way to complet the series.
ReplyDeletei like tags and mini patterns to finish into something like a tag could be nice, IMHO, of course :-)
Tags could be righ as ornament or to package a gift for a special friend....
I'm sure that whatever you will choose it'll be gorgeous as usual.
love those new patterns! Tey're great. Thanks for all this work .Best love.Couson
ReplyDeleteEstimated Alma, I love your blog and your designs, I can hardly find in Spain. I'm very envious you have so much snow, I'm 32 years and today it is snowing lightly, that penalty does not gel!! I have finally seen snowflakes! many kisses I love everything you do !!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow about the 12 days of christmas? One pattern a month. Either as stockings or mittens or xmas trees.
ReplyDeleteI love the new stockings!
ReplyDeleteA new idea, not necessarily for designs, as all the stocking designs are wonderful. How about a new shape....maybe "gloves" with all the fingers? We could still hang them with our little stockings and they would go so well! I know there are quite a few mitten designs out there already, but a few more of those would be nice, too.
How about Hearts?
ReplyDeleteI also like the idea of mittens, but hart to imagine mittens in July.
Hello~I am new to your blog and I just LOVE your stocking patterns!
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous! ~Kathy
The little Christmas stockings are charming. Barb did a great job!
ReplyDeleteI love your black and white sugar bowl. I have a black and white plate from England I often use as a cake plate for special cakes.
I have been trying to figure out how to convert your petite stockings into human-sized ones to stitch for my family, but I am mathematically challenged. Human-sized stockings might make a good project...
How about a "heart" series? Or a world trip series with icons of different countries?
ReplyDeleteDo love those stockings! And loved your previous post about applique stitching. I'm about ready to finally start working on the Home Sweet Home quilt and I was going back and forth between hand appliqueing it or machine doing it. I have the stitch you described, so I think I'm going to applique it on the machine! Will go quicker too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful patterns!
ReplyDeleteI love the chine pot. Is it a covered sugar bowl or a "slop pot"?
I collect transferware and this is a beauty!
barb
These are beautiful! I can't wait to order them. Now, I need to start stitching them :)
ReplyDeleteHow about shoes to go along with the stockings? Seasonality can go from old fashioned boots to summer flip flops....
ReplyDeleteThe stockings are beautiful. Here in the Netherlands we don't know what is happening. We have snow for more than two weeks.
ReplyDeleteThis day we went for a walk through the woods. It's marvelous.
Beautiful stitching as always...how about doing something regarding birthday gemstones or flowers...Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter...can't wait to see the next new thing. I am sure that too will be amazing...Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteOooh! Those are just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHave you done any patterns for tea cozies yet?? I am looking forward to starting your Birds on a Wire quilt. soon very soon..love the little stocking projects..Louise
ReplyDeleteLove all your designs. My comments is not on the latest entry but I have been looking for the pattern for the soup tureens that are on page 64 of your "When the Cold Wind Blows" book. I have brown quail dishes and would love to find these soup tureens but don't know the pattern. I am in the process of making 291 basket blocks for the Trick or Treat quilt.
ReplyDeleteAny help you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks. Judy B.
Hi Judy,
ReplyDeleteI purchased the soup tureens from Nell Hills ...

She has some of the best stuff...check out her web site!
Loving the last two months that conclude the stocking designs booklets. I'll have the whole years worth. :)My favorite from these two months features the reindeer!
ReplyDeleteThese make wonderful friends for gifts and needlework swaps. Jo
WOW!!! These are just phenomenal - where do I go for the entire set?
ReplyDeleteI need a change from quiltmaking!!
Something small I can curl up with in the evenings.
Janet in cold and snowy Nova Scotia
You asked for ideas
ReplyDeletewhat about a postcard to stitch on linen
One for and per each of the coming months?Or stitched doorstoppers or those things you put in front of doors to stop the draught coming in
Gigi
Oh! I LIKE the postcard idea- Barb and Alma can go all around the world for ideas! Old fashioned looking postcards really interest me!
ReplyDeleteDear Alma,
ReplyDeleteYou are the cat's meow! Thanks for all your inspiration!
♥ Cathy
Barb,
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your lovely cross stitch designs. You never seem to run out of ideas!!
Brenda
You asked for ideas - How about gift cards. They could include occasions, sentiments, initials, etc.
ReplyDeleteWow, those new stockings are just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi, As someone who has just started stitching these, have finished January ones, and 1 of February and currently working on the other February ones - must tell you I love these little stitcheries. Have discovered I can get one of these done on a Sunday of stitching, catching up with TV programs or movies. - photo's on my blog, using the nominated threads but different colours of hand-dyed linens from a wonderful online store here in Australia.
ReplyDeleteHave joined a Christmas Design Stitch along and am hoping to keep up and complete 3 stockings each month.
Ideas for this year - more stockings!!! Or sticking with a Christmas theme - how about a set of Bride's Tree Ornaments - a German tradition of 12 ornaments representing specific ornaments to celebrate a couple's journey together.
Wanted to make ornaments for my nephew who gets married this year, and have been searching for appropriate patterns - but would love a Blackbird Design series.
Hello Friends! Thanks for all the beauty you bring to the world! This idea just popped into my head for a pattern series. I was thinking of stars, celestial things, constellations, moon beams, star formations & all the beauty & mystery of the skies. Just a thought - In the meantime, thanks again! Margaret M.
