Celebrate Winter
Saturday, December 19, 2009
One of the best stress reducers is just to give in and embrace the stark beauty of winter. Put on your coat, gloves and hat and get yourself to a walking trail or park. Winter is so quiet, most of our song birds have returned south. Their song no longer fills the air. The bracing chill clears your mind. The natural landscape will fill you with quiet joy and peace. No malls....no cars....no blaring commercial noise to capture your attention. Sometimes in the rush of "it all" it's hard to take a bit of time for exercise. Promise me you will do this at least one time during the holiday. Here's what I found today.
The trail beckons....snow begins to lightly fall.
Left over flowers from late fall still bloom on frozen branches.
The surprise of a white tailed deer.
Frosted stems of grass.....
Architecture of bushes and trees is revealed. Forgotten leaves continue to cling to thorny branches.
The promise of spring is all around us if we just look.
A Christmas Rose fading on the branch.
Until later dear friend. Don't forget the contest from last post. Drawing Sat. night and winners announced on Sunday.

What a wonderful idea. I'm going to have to drag my hubbie out to do it with me. :D Once this supposed snow storm is over that is.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely pictures! I need to dig out my snowboots before I can head out - I will also have to shovel my way as I go!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and lovely words. This may be my favourite "Day" yet! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea and beautiful pictures. Sandi
ReplyDeleteI am a serious walker who would love to have done just that today, but and I mean BUT. I live in Virginia and after 24 inches of snow, we're still waiting for the snow plow to set us free. I'm short and it's hip high at the end of my driveway.
ReplyDeleteGotta admit..........it's beautiful.

You know... I'm really not a winter person... but you've made it sound so peaceful and poetic that I might just go for that walk... but I'll wait until after today's snow storm melts... ;-)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm what a difference a couple of miles makes. It's just not as peaceful and pretty in my neighborhood. I sure like the deer you saw better than the hint that Pepe La Pew passed through here a short time ago. All of your pictures are lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenery....but I just keep thinking "frozen toes." :) blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteIt is very beautiful there. We have rainy yucky weather here so I will pretend I am there instead =)

ReplyDeleteThanks for the gentle reminder, to stop and enjoy the beauty of the season.
ReplyDeleteI needed that after my day among the masses....
You have posted some wonderful Cooling Images of Winter - really lovely, seeing we are in the middle of Summer, and really feeling the heat. Would love to be there. Cathie from Oz
ReplyDeleteWinter is so beautiful through your eyes!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to both you and Barb.
That is something I would like to do, but I think I am going to be snowed in;) The snow is coming down fast in RI now, so I am sure I will wake up to a foot or more in the morning. Time to get the cc skis out.

During our morning walk I couldn't help but notice how beautiful the bark is on the crepe myrtles and river birch. You don't notice it when the leaves are on the branches.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Christmas...
the peace of winter.....grand
ReplyDeleteNo deer here, but only lots of snow today! 20 cm is quite a lot for our country hihihi!! It was absolutely lovely outside and our Labrador Yvette is still wandering where all the snowballs went she tried to fetch!! Will be reading your post again tomorrow! Have a nice day!
