Hooked Rug
Thursday, August 13, 2009Barb and I love hooked rugs. We have 4 rug-hooking booklets and have also published one by Marilyn Schmidt and Minerva Cabanas. When you love color and fiber you can't help but be drawn to the colors of overdyed wool hooked into a canvas.
The above rug was adapted from our quilt design Midnight Silhouette. You can purchase the canvas and wool for this rug at American Whatever! Sandy is the shop owner and hooked this one for Barb.

Or just adapt your own canvas from the Midnight Silhouette quilt pattern.
We try to add a hooked rug to most of our quilt books. Many of our quilt patterns could be adapted for a hooked rug.
Sheri from Calico Moon sent a response to the last blog posting. She asked me to take a look at her rug. Click on her shop name to see her rug adapted from the same pattern. What fun!
Kaaren sent the following:
Tis Hallowe'en is almost done. The printer will deliver it to the warehouse on Monday. So, you know what I will be doing on Monday. I will be transformed into a shipping clerk. I'm great with cardboard boxes, plastic shrink wrap and strapping tape. I've been Blackbird's shipping clerk for 10 years now. Lately I've had more help and don't ship books out as often. Donna really works for my husband at Dash Computers, but lately she has been helping more by shipping out books for me when she has a bit of extra time. Her help really enables me to get more done in the studio. I will have to take my camera and let you see where we store all the books and patterns. And of course a picture of Donna would be great too. Although, it would be hard to beat the picture APQ took of her when we helped them with a photoshoot.
I couldn't resist adding a picture of the Halloween stockings. All served up ....just for you!
Until later dear friends.
Alma

ReplyDeleteKaaren...I'm glad you decided to take the plunge and join the cross stitching world :) Now, you'll be searching out all your LNS or surfing the web for all the charts and fabric and floss you can get your hands on!! Have fun :)

Dear Kaaren..
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the addiction of cross stitch samplers. Your first attempt turned out just wonderful! You are in very good company. Blackbird Designs is nothing short of Mecca for samplers!!! Read books on the history of samplers and you will be changed forever. School girl samplers are my favorite.
Love the hooked rug too and can't wait for all the new stuff coming soon. Thanks Barb & Alma for all you do!
PS. Alma, Rebecca, in case you have trouble finding her, is from Scarlet Letter. :D Isn't she wonderful?

I just love that hooked rug--adorable! I want to learn how to hook rugs just so that I can say I'm a hooker. ROFLOL The sampler is just beautiful, too; what a lovely story behind it.
Love the Halloween stockings. I can't wait to get the book as soon as I can. The hooked rug is AWESOME! I have the quilt pattern and can't wait to adapt it to a hooked rug. I love Halloween. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteI love hooked rugs too. Must do the Midnight Silhouette! Those Halloween stockings look larger than the current monthly ones. What a wonderful fall we all will have!!

Hi Alma!....I love the rug....have just started dragging out my wools and canvases...so many wonderful things to do with fibre, wool and our precious time!....
ReplyDeleteI have one question for you....did you post the directions for the ruffle border for the quilt Barb worked on a few months back?
I have just started to begin making my blocks but would like the final piece so that I know if I got enough fabric for the borders while its still fresh.
Enjoy the day...
Carole
I love that rug and it would be fun to quilt too. I will look for the book next time I am in the store.

ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if someone could look at the crochet edging on the halloween bed and write the instructions for the edge, plus publish a copy of the scallop of the sheet edge.
ReplyDeleteHi Margaret,
ReplyDeleteI found Rebecca! I love how yours is turning out. I might try and stitch her after Christmas.
Carole,
I haven't done the ruffle border yet. Look for it soon!
Gayle,
You might have to call her.

I can't even find her e-mail address right now. Sorry!
Catherine,
Look for the Eiffel Tower pattern in the May 19th entry.
Jenny,
I'm very sorry but Their Song has been sold out and we no longer have any.
Jane,
You can find some of the old crochet patterns for the sheet edging and bedskirt on e-bay. I have played with my crochet hook but just can't work with the fine threads and hooks to get that look yet.
Amazing logo showcase, love the muuya and Hydro-pol design. This is what i call a best of the best logos.

I am obsessed with this design as a quilt pattern? Could you please help me find out how/where I could possibly get it? Will BBD reissue that quilt pattern?
